A server workspace can look very different from one task to the next. Sometimes you only need a shell. Sometimes you want Files beside it, another pane kept in view, and a few important tabs easy to recognize.
Zync 2.35.0 gives you more control over that arrangement. This release adds navigation and pane placement choices, tab organization, theme customization and a more accessible shortcut editor.
Here is what those changes look like in everyday use.
Keep the tools you need in view
Enable the optional activity bar for quick access to sections such as Hosts, Vaults, Plugins and Public URLs. Place it on the left or right, choose which entries appear, and reorder them to suit your workflow.
You can also move the host’s Shell, Files and plugin tab strip into the existing resizable sidebar. If you prefer the horizontal strip, keep it there or return it later. Moving the navigation does not create a second set of tabs or restart the content they represent.
The controls live in Settings > Layout & Navigation, with context-menu actions available where you use them.
Dock a pane while you work elsewhere
Suppose you want a shell kept visible while you browse files in the center. Supported panes can now move into side or bottom regions, where they remain available as you switch center tabs.
Resize a docked region, return the pane to the workspace, or temporarily maximize a pane when it needs more room. Restoring it returns to the existing layout.
You can also drag a grouped pane’s header back to the host’s pane-tab strip to make it a separate tab again. These moves reuse the existing content rather than opening another session. Available locations depend on the pane, and workspace pane limits still apply.
Give tabs names that mean something
A row of similar shell labels becomes harder to read as your task grows. Rename main tabs and individual panes with display names such as “Logs,” “Deploy checks” or “Config review.” Pin important tabs and reorder them within their groups.
Display names do not rename the underlying host or resource. They help you recognize what you are doing in that view.
You can hide a pane without closing its session and recover it from the tab-bar menu. Hidden panes still count toward the pane limit. Closing a shell remains a separate action, and this release also fixes cases where closing one shell affected unrelated feature or plugin tabs.
Choose colors with a preview
In Settings > Appearance, use Zync’s color picker to adjust supported interface colors and inspect them in a sample workspace before applying. You can reset individual overrides or return to the selected theme’s inherited colors.
Theme JSON import and export lets you save a palette and supported element overrides as a reusable file. Imports are validated, applying them is explicit, and low-contrast combinations show a warning.
The current file format accepts opaque six-digit hex colors. It does not include fonts, images, gradients, connection credentials or a complete workspace backup. Imported theme documents remain local to the device in this release.
Make shortcuts easier to find and edit
Open Profile > Keyboard shortcuts > View & edit shortcuts… to search the shortcut catalog, record a binding, inspect conflicts, remove a binding or restore its default.
Terminal first and Zync first remain the quick choices for keyboard priority. Eligible commands also have an Available in terminal choice, so you can decide which Zync actions should work while a shell is focused.
Additional bindings make navigation available without automatically taking familiar primary keys away from terminal programs. Existing custom bindings take priority over conflicting defaults. If your shell or tmux configuration uses the same combination, remap or disable that Zync reservation.
Keep the bars useful to you
Right-click the toolbar or status bar to show or hide optional controls, or jump to their settings. Required indicators remain available.
You can reset each area independently. Toolbar and status visibility controls are separate from tab and navigation reordering, so hiding a control does not change the action behind it.
Try one change first
After updating, choose one adjustment that helps your next task: rename a shell, dock a pane, preview a color change or open the shortcut editor. You do not need to configure everything to use the release.
Thank you to everyone who reported issues and shared workflow feedback. Issue #129, raised by @Inteleon404, helped shape the customization and interface work in this release.

If something behaves unexpectedly, use Settings > Feedback or open an issue. Include your OS, Zync version and reproduction steps, with secrets removed from any screenshots or logs.
Put it into practice.
